True to its commitments to cooperation, the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Sustainable Development joined other government departments, led by the Ministry of External Relations, to commemorate this 2025 Commonwealth in Cameroon.

This edition accordingly was quite unique, as 2025 marks 30 years of cooperation between Cameroon and the Commonwealth.

The Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Sustainable Development, as the ministerial department responsible for a key sector of this bilateral cooperation, set the course for the celebration with a fitting theme: “Together, we thrive in a healthy environment.”

One key area Cameroon has benefitted from cooperation with the Commonwealth is in the area of renewable energy sources, the Minister of Environment Hele Pierre said.

“We must take advantage of this celebration to inform and raise awareness about environmental issues and demonstrate to the general public that renewable energy sources are not just a slogan but an effective solution to protect nature from the harmful effects of fossil fuel use, while being economical and safe for health,” he said.

Prior to the celebrations the Ministry of environment organised a two day (March 5-6) awareness-raising activities, during which an exhibition stand welcomed a large number of visitors from all social strata and age groups.

The main attractions on site were two ecological cooking devices: the biodigester presented by a private partner, and the solar cooker, which continues to arouse curiosity.

The biodigester accordingly  is a device that transforms household waste into biogas, which is transported like a conventional gas cylinder.

This annual event celebrates the unity and diversity of the Commonwealth of Nations, a group of 56 member countries spread across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, the Americas, the Pacific, and Europe.

Commonwealth Day is traditionally celebrated on the second Monday of March, which means March 10, 202

With a combined population of about 2.7 billion people, nearly a third of the world’s population, the Commonwealth is a significant global family tied together by shared history, values, and goals.

Commonwealth Day accordingly  serves a clear purpose: to celebrate the shared values and diversity of its 56 member countries while promoting cooperation for a better future.
