Renowned economic expert and business mind developer, Dr Ngalle Joe Awasume, has schooled ICT University students on the various steps to follow in becoming influential entrepreneurs.
The US-based expert gave the learners a lecture during a seminar Friday March 21 at the respected institution’s campus in Yaounde. The lecture was on the theme: “From a small business to an empire”.
It presented a platform for the students to be drilled on the attitude to put up while studying and the entrepreneurial spirit they should already have as they go through studies.
Ngalle diagnosed in detail the challenges the youths of Cameroon will face in the next five years if they don’t become job creators and remain job seekers.
“Cameroon today is made of 65% youths that is from the ages of 1 to 25 thereby making the dependency ratio very high. So we are going to be in big trouble in the next five years if something is not done,” Ngalle, said, adding that: “ Because the government employs only 6% of the population and the private sector 25%. So you see there is a problem that needs urgent solution”.
Stop Depending on Gov’t
The expert exhorted the students to have the entrepreneurial spirit and stop depending government and other companies because they cannot employ everyone.
“It is time for the youths of Cameroon to pick the challenge and develop the spirit of an entrepreneur. I think they can start with a small business like poultry farming, agriculture and other petit businesses that can grow over the years to become real estate,”. Ngalle remarked.
He called on youths to be disciplined and focus in order to accomplish their goals. “To achieve your goals you have to be disciplined and focused. There are so many opportunities out there that youths have to make use of them,” Ngalle stated.

“In the business world capital is not so much of the money, it is first of all the brain and the creative mind. Someone with a sound creative mind will succeed more in business with little amount than someone a with bigger amount and no sense of creativity,” Dr Ngalle said.
The panelists advised youths to believe in their worth, develop an independent mind set and be daring in business venture rather than look up to government for public service jobs.
“ There are many business opportunities up for grabs and our youths just need the right training and a creative mindset,”Dr Ngalle advised.
