Dr. Ateh Francis (Bazor) Re-elected President of the Board of Directors of SONACAM

The General Assembly of the Cameroon National Society of Musical Arts (SONACAM) ended in a jubilant atmosphere, with the overwhelming re-election of Dr. Ateh Bazor as President of the Board of Directors.

According to the final results announced after the vote, the new board chairman secured 733 votes against 45 for his opponent, who reportedly withdrew before the election.

There were seven invalid votes.

The landslide victory reflects the strong support of a large majority of artists for the vision carried by the winner.

“ We are confident the incumbent President will continue with his vision to improve the lots of artist. We have seen great achievements since he took office, transparent management style, investments in important infrastructure for artitsts and we think many more is on the way,” one of the jubilant artist said.

At the venue hosting the assembly, songs, cheers, hugs and celebrations erupted as the results were announced.

 For many artists in attendance, the vote represents a desire to move past months of tension and restore stability within the artists’ organization.

Despite boycott calls and strong statements from some opponents, notably artist K-tino, the election was ultimately held to completion under strong participation from members.

The re-elected President of the Board of Directors of SONACAM, Dr Ateh Bazor thanked the artists for the confidence bestowed on him, calling for collective efforts to better the working environment of the artists in Cameroon.
