It was a black Wednesday August 5 in the seaside city of Limbe following the demise of three persons in the Mbende neighbourhood. This was during a tragic landslide following heavy rains that pushed the house of the occupants to collapse.
Persistent heavy rains in the city also triggered devastating floods making roads impassable for both pedestrians and automobile users.
The Limbe Council has confirmed the new saying the three members were of the same family and died after a building collapsed in Mokeba Farms during the heavy rains that struck the city in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Press release, signed by City Mayor Dr. Paul Efome L.M. Ngale, said the flooding and landslides caused by the heavy rains led to loss of lives, destruction of property and left some residents temporarily without shelter.
After collecting information from firefighters and other emergency responders, the council confirmed the deaths of three persons including,Julie Melanie, 26, Meh Blessing Duh, 25 (pregnant),Fanny Duh, 14.
The council said a fourth family member, Meh James Duh, was rescued and taken to hospital and is not in danger.
The mayor extended condolences to the bereaved family, urged residents to avoid living in disaster-prone areas such as hillsides, riverbanks and flood-prone zones, and encouraged regular consultation of weather forecasts. He also said the council would continue efforts to mitigate the effects of floods and landslides while awaiting state support.
