ONE PARTY, TWO CANDIDATES
Paul Biya and Thriller Onana Leon – both members of the ruling CPDM party, have both deposited files at ELECAM to be the CPDM’s presidential candidates on October 12.
Onana is CPDM councilor for Monatele in Lekie Division of the Center Region. It remains to be seen how things will play out with this internal CPDM wrangling putting two candidates from the same party, against each other. The official ELECAM Facebook page confirmed that Onana submitted his file as presidential candidate, via CAMPOST on July 18.

Maurice Kamto has taken a decisive step in his political career by formalizing his candidacy for the 2025 presidential election. The leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) is running under the MANIDEM banner within the Alliance for Change (APC).
This declaration of candidacy certified by the police, marks a major turning point in the Cameroonian political landscape. The main opponent of the Biya regime has thus consolidating his position as the main opponent of the regime in power for several years.
MANIDEM is banking on Maurice Kamto’s experience and reputation to further its presidential ambitions. This strategic alliance within the APC aims to unite opposition forces around a common project to transform Cameroon.

Maurice Kamto’s candidacy is part of an effort to unite Cameroon’s opposition parties. His background as an international lawyer and experienced politician is a major asset for mobilizing voters seeking political change.
This official announcement comes at a time when Cameroon’s democratic and economic challenges require concrete responses. The MANIDEM candidate will need to present a platform capable of convincing Cameroonian voters to place their trust in him in the 2025 elections.
The APC thus strengthens its position as the main opposition force, with Maurice Kamto as the leading figure embodying the political change desired by a significant portion of the Cameroonian population.
SDF DEPOSITS FILE IN BAMENDA
Meanwhile, in Bamenda, Joshua OSIH, the Social Democratic Front (SDF) leader, was personally present to submit his candidacy at ELECAM’s North West Regional Delegation.
According to the party, this act is “a symbolic gesture grounded in historical, political, and civic significance.” With this strategic move, the SDF reaffirms its stronghold in the North West region.

ELECAM Receives 15 Applicants Already
According to ELECAM some 15 applications for the October Presidential race have already been received by Friday July 18.
The deadline for submitting candidacies is Monday, July 21, 2025, at midnight.
With just days left before the deadline, all eyes are on who will be the next to enter the presidential race.
