
PM Dion Ngute in Douala
Prime Minister Chief Dr Dion Ngute , the personal representative of the President of the Republic for the festivities marking the 150th anniversary of the Port of Douala-Bonaberi, has commended the achievement strides of the institution, calling on the management not to relent in their efforts.
The Prime Minister was speaking at the ceremony to mark the 150th anniversary of the Port September 26, 2025 in Douala.
It should be recalled that the PM who arrived Douala yesterday for the event was received at the International Airport by the Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, accompanied by the Prefect of Wouri, Sylyac Marie Mvogo, the President of the Littoral Regional Council, the Honorable Polycarpe Banlog, and several other civilian and military officials.
After a friendly exchange with the Governor in the VIP lounge of Douala International Airport, the Prime Minister was escorted to and installed at the Krystal Palace.
The 150th anniversary celebrations of the Port of Douala-Bonaberi is held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, H.E. Paul Biya.
The PM commended the three pillars of the Ports which include, competence, competitiveness, and attractiveness, tenets that permits the Port of Douala positions itself as a strategic center for Cameroon and the sub-region.
“This port strongly supports the development of trade in the entire Central African sub-region,” the PM said.
According to Jeune Afrique, it was Jean-Yves Le Drian who ordered Paul Biya to return Bolloré to the Port of Douala.
“The Port of Douala-Bonaberi is indeed the economic engine of Cameroon and the sub-region. Thus, in terms of the national economy, the Port of Douala handles 70% of Cameroon’s total foreign trade; contributes to the mobilization of 85% of national customs revenue; contributes to the creation of 43% of formal jobs locally (in Douala) and 18% nationally; “This allows us to generate annual salaries of approximately 495 billion (as of 2020),” said Cyrius Ngo’o, CEO of the Port of Douala.
The Port of Douala has also launched a major modernization plan to meet the expected increase in port traffic, which is expected to increase from the current 12.4 million tons to 21 million tons by 2030.
