Some Mid-career University Management staff of State and Private Higher Education Institutions in Cameroon have been trained in University Leadership and Management. This training was made possible, thanks to a grant jointly initiated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference to train such persons in Cameroon. The grant is managed by Dr. Sophie Etomes, Head of Department of Educational Psychology in the Faculty of Education.
The University of Buea in collaboration with the University of Potsdam, Germany hosted Phase One of the workshop from the 19 – 21 November 2025 in the ASTI Conference Hall under the theme: “University Leadership and Management”.
Speaking as Guest Speaker of the workshop and representative of the Vice-Chancellor of UB, Professor Michael Ekonde Sone, Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Teaching, professionalisation and the development of ICTs gave a situational analysis of digital transformation in Higher Education in Cameroon and the University of Buea in particular. In his discourse, Professor Sone gave a demonstration of digital transformation in Higher Education and some practical activities and digital tools that are used in UB in teaching, research and administrative assignments.
Presentations on project management and leadership, project team management and organization, practical activities and key indicators of progress and success were also discussed under the guidance of Dr. Sophie Etomes (PI of the DIES project), Dr. Frank Loglo (DIES Programme Mentor), Professor Nalova Endeley (Dean of the Faculty of Education and Co-PI) Dr. Takang Kelly (Lecturer of the University of Buea and Co-PI) and other digital experts.
Participants were given the opportunity to present their project proposals which were subject to scrutiny. In line with promoting DIES courses, participants were encouraged to act as multipliers within the higher education management system by developing the following:
– train staff and students in their respective institutions on the use of digital tools in teaching and research
– make maximum use of digital tools in practice
– submit their presentation and project proposals for appraisal and final approval, amongst others.
On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sone thanked the organizers of the workshop for using UB as a training ground to transmit such high-quality knowledge.
