Pope Leo XIV making his first pastoral visit to Africa

Pope Leo XIV is expected to make a multi-nation pastoral visit to Africa in 2026, with official confirmation for a stop in Algeria , Angola Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon.

While the visit to the other countries have been confirmed by the governments and bishops that of Cameroon is still under consideration.

It is the first papal visit since John Paul II in 1982.

Cameroon: While part of the anticipated itinerary, with potential stops in Yaoundé, Douala, and Bamenda, the visit ECO OUTLOOK gathers is facing scrutiny due to security concerns, political tensions, and infrastructure issues following the 2025 election.

This trip highlights the Pope’s focus on the Church in Central and North Africa, with possible stops in Algeria, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, and Cameroon.

The trip is expected to take place this February 2026, with some reports indicating it will occur after the Lenten period.
