The visit of Pope Leo XIV to Cameroon has now been officially confirmed for April 15-18 2026

A release from Apostolic Nuncio for Cameroon says His Holiness Pope Leo XIV will undertake an Apostolic Journey to Algeria, Cameroon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea from 13 to 23 April 2026.

“He will visit Algiers and Annaba from 13 to 15 April, Yaoundé, Bamenda and Douala from 15 to 18 April, Luanda, Muxima and Saurimo from 18 to 21 April, and finally Malabo, Mongomo and Bata from 21 to 23 April,” the release says.

The detailed programme for this trip will be announced in due course.

While in Cameroon, the Pontiff will visit Yaoundé, Bamenda and Douala where he will mass services and meet catholic Christians of the different communities.

 This visit will be Pope Leo XIV’s accordingly is his first outing in the Central African su-bregion since assuming office in February 2025.

 Cameroon, with approximately 40% of its population identifying as Catholic, has hosted two previous Papal visits – by St. John Paul II (twice) and Benedict XVI (his first African visit).

Pope Leo XIV’s visit Christians say will be a significant moment for the country, providing an opportunity for spiritual reflection and addressing pressing national issues.
