The National Communication Council has sanctioned journalists from seven media outlets in Cameroon, prohibiting them from practicing.

This took place during the council’s 49th ordinary session, held Thursday in Yaounde.

The complaints were largely submitted by government ministers and regional authorities.

After reviewing twelve cases, the council, chaired by Joe Chebonkeng Kalabusu, announced that seven suspensions and three warnings had been issued, while two cases were dismissed.

The longest suspension handed down was for six months, in a case involving the vice president of the South Regional Council and a local media outlet.

The council stated that it found the outlet had failed to verify or investigate claims prior to publication, and consequently suspended its publisher for six months.

Additionally, Abdoullah Lamisa, a journalist with Le Jour newspaper, received a one-month suspension for professional misconduct.

He was brought before the council by the Secretary of State in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Galax Etouga.

Other cases involved the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Njoumessi; the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie; and a complaint filed by the NCC itself against various media organs.
