Some four militants of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement , MRC were arrested in Mbanga in the Littoral region by security forces after a standoff during their meeting on April 27, 2025.

According to the MRC National Communications Secretary, Emmanuel Joseph Ateba, security officials under the orders of the sub-prefect of Mbanga, stormed their meeting requesting for authorization. They  dispersed the crowd and arrested four militants.

Eyewitnesses report say the CRM militants, who had gathered for the meeting, were  caught off guard and their resistance  led to a chaotic scene.

The incident has sparked concerns about the state of political freedom and security in the region. The CRM has been a vocal critic of the government, and the party’s activities have often been subject to scrutiny.

Details about the identities of those detained are still emerging. The incident is currently under investigation, and reactions from the CRM and the authorities are awaited.

This development raises questions about the government’s tolerance for political dissent and the ability of opposition parties to operate freely. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact the political landscape in Cameroon.
