The Cameroon High Commissioner to Canada, H.E Ngole Philip Ngwesse used the occasion of the celebration of 20th May, 2025 to paint a glowing picture of the warm relationship that exists between Cameroon and Canada.

“Canada and Cameroon have been having excellent ties since 1962…and we intend to enhance this cooperation,” Cameroon’s High Commissioner, H.E Ngole Philip Ngwesse said. He was speaking on Tuesday May 20, 2025, as he presided over celebrations at the historic Preston Event Center in Ottawa, to commemorate the 53rd edition of Cameroon’s National Day.

The celebration was heavily attended by hundreds of Cameroonian diasporas in Canada as well as officials of the Canadian government and other top diplomats from the Embassies of several friendly countries.

“I think the 53rd National Day has given Cameroonians in Canada the opportunity to come together to celebrate their unity in diversity and, at the same time, display their attachment to their fatherland,” the High Commissioner said.

To the Cameroonian diaspora in Canada, H.E.  Ngole Philip Ngwese called on them to be law-abiding, as they go about their different engagements in Canada and added that they should also take advantage of the many opportunities that the good relationship between Canada and Cameroon has to offer. He further advised them to conduct themselves “with dignity, be law abiding citizens and give a good account of yourselves at all times and in all circumstances.”

Meantime, the Canadian government during the celebration was represented by Mrs. Cheryl Urban who is the Assistant Deputy Minister for Africa at the Global Affairs, Canada. She extolled the shared values that Cameroon and her country have. She especially evoked the bilingual nature of the two countries, which is English and French.
