Prime Minister Chief Dion Ngute on Key Working Mission in the Southwest May 29-30th.

Warm and enthusiastic welcome for PM Dion Ngute in Buea.

The Prime Minister Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute is in the Southwest region for some key working missions.

The PM arrived the South West Region for a two-day official visit marked by both development and political engagements.

Eco OUTLOOK gathered that the first meeting will take place tomorrow, the 30th, at the Mountain Hotel in Buea, where he is expected to chair the 6th session of the Steering Committee of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development (PPRD) of the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon. This crucial session aims to evaluate progress made so far and chart the way forward for the PPRD, a flagship initiative that emerged as one of the dividends of the 2019 Major National Dialogue. The plan seeks to restore infrastructure, livelihoods, and social cohesion in the conflict-affected regions.

The second meeting, of a more political nature, is scheduled for the 31st. It will be a major rally organised by the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), during which party militants are expected to call on President Paul Biya to stand as a candidate in the upcoming presidential election slated for October this year.

The Prime Minister received a warm and symbolic welcome at the Mungo Bridge, the natural boundary between the Francophone Littoral Region and the Anglophone South West.

He was received by a large and enthusiastic crowd. His next stop was the Tiko Roundabout, where another sizeable and diverse crowd turned out, reflecting the multicultural character of this strategic seaport town.

He then proceeded to Mutengene, a town that serves as a crossroads to both Limbe and Buea. Once again, a spirited welcome awaited him as residents gathered in large numbers to greet him.

In Buea proper, his motorcade stopped at Mile 17, then at the Checkpoint neighbourhood, before arriving at the historic Bongo Square, so named in honour of the former Gabonese President Omar Bongo, who visited Buea in the 1960s, during the time when the town served as the capital of the former British Southern Cameroons.

The Prime Minister’s final stop for the day was at the Mountain Hotel, where he was received by another crowd comprising traditional rulers, cultural dance groups, and other dignitaries. After about an hour, he retired to his residence at the foot of Mount Cameroon to prepare for the official engagements ahead
