
PM Chief Dr Dion Ngute in Buea

The Prime Minister Chief Joseph Dion Ngute, was in the South West region on a two-day visit, to evaluate the progress made by the steering committee of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development (PPRD) of the North West and South West regions.
The sixth session of the steering committee was held on the first day of the official visit on Friday, May 30, assessing the achievements made so far and what still needs to be done.
PM Dion Ngute met with key stakeholders, including the Governors of the two regions concerned, Bernard Okalia Bilai of the South West and Adolphe Lele L’Afrique of the North West region with reports showing great progress of work already done.
It was noted that top priorities remain the maintaining of tight security, restoring livelihoods and infrastructural development. It was also emphasised that traditional rulers play a crucial role in fostering peace and reconciliation.
Part of the Prime Minister’s visit also involved a special political meeting with the CPDM members in the South West region on Saturday, May 31.
One of the decisions adopted on the way forward was the construction of a new stadium in Kumba worth 500 million FCFA. This landmark initiative is being made possible through a tripartite agreement signed between the Kumba City Council, Société Anonyme des Boissons du Cameroun (SABC), and the PPRD.
It was also announced that the reconstruction of the Douala- Mutengene- Limbe- Idenau road is in track and works expected to begin in August, 2025.
The sixth session of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development (PPRD) of the North West and South West Regions is wrapped up with significant announcements offering renewed hope for the people of these conflict-affected regions.
Chaired by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, on behalf of President Paul Biya, the high-level meeting brought together key members of government, including the Minister of Finance, well as regional and municipal authorities.
The Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the NW/SW Regions (PPRD) is embedded in the National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (NDS30), adopted by the Government. The first of the three phases of the PPRD, called “Recovery”, was the subject of a project document (PRODOC) between the Government and the UNDP, the implementation partner. The aim of the recovery phase is to address the immediate needs of the affected populations in the NW/SW Regions to restore social cohesion, reconstruct and rehabilitate basic infrastructure, and revitalise the local economy.
