Showcases varied cultural, tourism and natural resource potentials

Bangem Council was the center of attraction at the 2025 JEICOM economic forum in Yaounde, standing out with its unique display of both culture and natural resource potential.
Organized by the Center for Local Government Capacity Building (CVUC) in collaboration with the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance (FEICOM), this event portrays government’s intent to empower local councils and foster economic growth.
Potential investors and others who visited the exhibition stands of the council acclaimed the variety of items on display. Many were entreated to the varied traditional dishes from Kupemuanenguba like esuba and nzabe ngen, kwankzlang, plantains etc along with natural palm wine.
The International Economic Days provided a platform for councils to showcase their economic potential, with the event offering a unique opportunity for local authorities to attract investments, forge partnerships, and leverage expertise.
This forum that was held at the Yaounde Conference center opened on 2 June 2025 by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute and wrapped up on Wednesday June 5 th.
It stimulated discussions on innovative strategies for local economic development, enabling councils to tap into their unique strengths and resources.
The Bangem Council led by the Mayor Ekungwe Christopher Kang answered présent and became one of the lead attractive exhibition stands showcasing arts and crafts, variety of food and cash crops, plantain chips and other transformed items but above all marketing the tourist and cultural potential of the entire Kupemuanenguba.
” With our rich volcanic soil in Kupemuanenguba ,we grow a variety of food and cash crops. We all know Kupemuanenguba is one of the lead bread basket zone in food and cash crops in Cameroon , the highest producer of plantain in the country,” Mayor Ekungwe Christopher said.



Visitors came in their numbers

The JEICOM 2025 forum aligns with the government’s vision of decentralization, which aims to empower local councils and promote participatory governance. By engaging with stakeholders, including local authorities, private sector players, and civil society organizations, this event will help to identify solutions to the challenges faced by councils and unlock their potential for growth and development.
The forum offered numerous benefits for councils in Cameroon, including increased visibility as councils will have the opportunity to showcase their economic potential and attract investments. There were also partnership opportunities as it was facilitated in the B2B meetings and partnerships between councils, private sector players, and other stakeholders. Participants benefited from expert insights and knowledge sharing on local economic development strategies not leaving out the fact that the event will provide a platform for councils to connect with other stakeholders and share best practices.
The economic days for councils according to experts was a timely initiative that with potential to drive local economic development and strengthen decentralization in Cameroon.
By empowering local councils and fostering partnerships, this event has helped to unlock the country’s economic potential and improve the lives of its citizens.
