The Bangem District hospital in KupeMuanenguba on June 2025 received energy powered 30 kilowatt diesel generator, a donation from the Bakossi community in the UK.
The generator according to the director of the hospital, Dr Esambe Emmanuel will help improve electricity supply to the district Hospital’s sensitive units like the mortuary in case of power outages and effective response to the need for stable and uninterrupted power supply faced by the hospital.
“The generators will also bridge the power supply gaps that have been affecting our health service deliveries, strengthening the health service in Bamgem,” Dr Esambe said during the reception.
The representative of the Bakossi community in the UK Enongene Sone Stanley said the donation was in response the need for constant power supply to the hospital to address health emergencies as well as building a resilient health system that is able to withstand shocks to ensure continuity of essential health services in Bangem sub-division in particular and KupeMuneguba as a whole.
“ Our brothers and sisters in the UK have answered our cry in energy supply in the hospital. Its quite a commendable gesture,” Enongene said.
The Mayor of Bangem Ekungwe Christopher Kang, thanked the donors especially as the generator has a high capacity to power all the units of the hospital, especially the mortuary. He called on others to emulate the example coming from the UK.
“ We are pleading with our brothers in other countries in the diaspora to continue to plough back home for the development of our division. Together we shall make Bangem great,” the mayor said.
Also present at the ceremony was the paramount chief of Bangem, Chief Nnane Nnoko Emmanuel who called for the diligent use of the equipment for sustainability.
“ We are more than happy for this kind gesture and pray God to continue to empower our children in the diaspora and nationally to come to our rescue with development projects like this. First we had installation of solar energy and now a powerful generator. We thank God” Chief Nnane said.

The Paramount Chief of Bangem Chief Nnane Nnoko and a other residence were also present during the reception.
GENERATOR TO COMPLIMENT SOLAR
It should be recalled that some other well-wishers have hitherto address the energy supply need of Bangem hospital in recent times.
CCREAD SOLAR ENERGY SUPPLY
The challenges in accessing modern healthcare facilities in rural communities in Cameroon has been a frightening experience. The situation is even worse where electricity power supply has become very unreliable because of prolonged drought, thus depriving the few available hospital facilities from rendering basic health services, according to the CEO of the Centre for Community Regeneration and Development, CCREAD, Dr Hilary Ewang Ngide who supplied solar energy in Bangem district hospital in 2024.
Bangem like most communities in the Southwest region have suffered from persistent blackouts that characterize hydro-electricity supply in Cameroon. According to the director of Bangem sub-divisional hospital, Dr Essambe Emmanuel, « the energy supply crisis has been a big problem to the proper functioning of the hospital ».
But these days, the people of Bangem and Ndibisi, another village very close to Bangem no longer have to worry about electricity supply lapses, after the installation of a new solar-powered system in hospitals in the two communities by CCREAD and now a 30 Kilwatt diesel generator offered by the Bakossi community in the UK

CCREAD in 2024 also powered the Bangem District Hospital with Solar Energy.
