The Social Democratic Front, SDF has refuted allegations that some 300 of its party militants have resigned to join UNDP party.
In a Press release of 16 August, 2025, the Social Democratic Front stated that there were no resignations of 300 party members to join Bello Bouba Maïgari’s UNDP.
“Recently some social media and other news platforms have relayed information that approximately 300 SDF activists in Bamenda have resigned to join the UNDP. We wish to clarify that this claim is completely false and is purely a form of public opinion manipulation,” the SDF statement reads.
“The reality is this: a few weeks ago, a former Secretary General of the SDF, expelled in 2023 for serious misconduct, chose to join the UNDP with some acquaintances in Bafoussam. Since then, an attempt has been made to construct a narrative that the SDF, Cameroon’s main opposition party, is losing its activists to the UNDP. This is inaccurate and does not correspond to reality in any way.
This denial comes as preparation for the 2025 presidential race intensifies.
The SDF accordingly is seeking to assert its cohesion in the face of rumors of defections, while positioning itself as the main opposition party, despite the competition and challenges it faces.
The SDF observers say is reasserting itself as a lead political in the country. Their powerful presence and massive participation during the 20th May celebrations this year in some of their historic strong hold like Bamenda, Bafoussam, Douala, Kumba and Limbe took many political observers by surprise.
