KUPE MUANENGUBA RISES WITH ONE OF HER FINEST SONS:   AN ODE TO PROFESSOR GEORGE EWANE NGIDE

Dr George Ewane Ngide

“When a tree grows tall, it does not shade itself alone; it shelters a people.” — African Proverb

Kupe Muanenguba has once again etched her name in the golden tablets of intellectual greatness. From the fertile soil of our ancestral land rises a colossus of thought, voice, and vision—Professor George Ewane Ngide, now crowned Full University Professor, a remarkable feat that resonates far beyond academia and echoes across the hills of Ebonji, Ehom, Ebul-Peng, Bulutu, and beyond.

This is not merely a personal triumph; it is a collective coronation. A victory for a people who believe that scholarship is service, that knowledge is power, and that excellence is the truest form of patriotism.

Professor George Ewane Ngide is a man of rare dexterity and depth—a guru of African Literature, a scholar whose intellect dances effortlessly between tradition and modernity, between the written word and the spoken voice. Like Chinua Achebe’s ideal intellectual, he reminds us that “the writer cannot expect to be excused from the task of re-education and regeneration.” Prof Ngide has embraced this task with grace and rigor.

To the nation, he is a voice—familiar, commanding, and deeply humane. The voice behind the revered program “Inside the Presidency” on CRTV, his tone carries might, vigour, and compassion, cutting through noise with clarity, and through doubt with reason. It is a voice that does not merely speak, but guides; one that informs, reassures, and uplifts.

As Spokesperson of the Grand National Dialogue, and Technical Adviser at the Presidency of the Republic, Prof Ngide stands at the confluence of ideas and action, thought and policy. His contributions to national discourse have been marked by balance, wisdom, and a deep respect for Cameroon’s complex social fabric. In him, scholarship meets statesmanship.

Yet, beyond the titles and honors lies a man profoundly human—full of humour, disarming warmth, and an almost angelic vocal presence that has left an indelible imprint on the Cameroonian media landscape. His performance in journalism and public communication will be remembered as a standard of excellence, a chapter written boldly in the history of our media.

Like Wole Soyinka once wrote, “The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny.” Professor Ngide has never been silent—he has spoken with courage, with intellect, and with love for country and community.

Today, Kupe Muanenguba lifts her head high.

Let the drums sound in Ebonji.

Let songs rise in Ehom.

Let celebrations erupt in Ebul-Peng and Bulutu.

This is our son. A bona fide heir of the land we call home. A symbol of what is possible when talent meets discipline, and destiny meets service.

Professor George Ewane Ngide, Kupe Muanenguba is proud of you.

Your elevation is our elevation.

Your light is our light.

And as long as your voice continues to resonate, history will listen.
