THE SOUTH WEST INDIGENOUS LAWYERS ASSOCIATION THROUGH: THE THE PRIME MINISTER
SUBJECT: URGENT APPEAL FOR THE INTERCONNECTION OF ALL DIVISIONS OF THE SOUTH WEST REGION BY ROAD AND FOR THE PROVISION OF ELECTRICITY AND POTABLE WATER IN ALL TOWNS AND CITIES OF THE SOUTH WEST REGION.

Your Excellency, We, the *South West Indigenous Lawyers Association*, made up of Barristers, Solicitors and NOTARIES from the 6 Divisions of the South West Region, submit this Open Petition to you as the Guarantor of National Unity, Institutions, and the Well-being of all Cameroonians.
PREAMBLE
The South West Region is one of the two English-speaking Regions of our country and a pillar of Cameroon’s bi-jural, bi-cultural heritage.
Our people are peaceful, hardworking, and have contributed immensely to the national economy through agriculture, trade, tourism, and public service. However, for decades our Region has been marginalized in terms of basic infrastructure.
The time has come for decisive action to integrate our Region fully into the national development agenda.
OUR GRIEVANCES AND REQUESTS
- ON ROAD INTERCONNECTION OF ALL DIVISIONS
Your Excellency, it is unacceptable and frustrating in 2026 that our 6 Divisions – *Meme, Fako, Kupe-Manenguba, Ndian, Lebialem and Manyu* – are not all connected by tarred, all-season roads.
Our major towns – KUMBA, BUEA, BANGEM, MUNDEMBA, FONTEM AND MAMFE are still a shadow of modern cities with no road connectivity.
This lack of road connectivity: – Isolates communities and hinders movement of people and goods
– Increases the cost of living and blocks access to markets, hospitals and schools
– Fuels insecurity and makes governance difficult – Divides brothers and sisters of the same Region *WE THEREFORE PETITION* that the Government should, as a matter of national priority, *construct and rehabilitate roads to interconnect all Divisions and Sub-Divisions of the South West Region* and link them properly to the national road network.
Its an embarrassment to travel within the South West by road especially in the rainy season.
*2. ON ELECTRICITY AND POTABLE WATER SUPPLY*
Your Excellency, access to electricity and clean water is a basic human right and a foundation for development.
Today, many, if not all, of our towns and cities in the South West still suffer: – Frequent and prolonged power outages
– Complete absence of electricity in several Division and Sub-Divisional headquarters
– Lack of potable water, forcing our people to drink from unsafe sources.
This situation affects health, education, businesses, and the dignity of our people.
Development of the South West Region should be a matter of priority. Our people cannot continue to live in abject poverty and primitivity in this era when the rest of the world is on fast lane modernity.
*WE THEREFORE PETITION* that the Government should not only ensure that *every Divisional and Sub-Divisional headquarters, and all major towns and cities in the South West Region, are connected to the national electricity grid and provided with clean, portable water supply* as a matter of urgency but should be proactive in realizing the major changes. Its universally acknowledged that wherever road passes, development follows.
The punishment of no road, lack of water and the unfortunate regular power outages are becoming unbearable
Your Excellency, development is the best antidote to division and frustration. Connecting our Region by road, light, and water will send a strong message of inclusion, unity, and hope to the people of the South West.
We reaffirm our commitment to peace, unity, and the rule of law.
We respectfully pray that this petition receives your highest and most urgent attention.
