Cameroon Customs Seize Four Tonnes of Methanol at Border with Nigeria

Authorities say the toxic chemical was being transported illegally into the country as part of a smuggling operation

Customs officers in Cameroon’s Far North Region have seized four tonnes of methanol allegedly being smuggled into the country from Nigeria.

The operation was carried out by the Commercial Customs Brigade in Kousséri, in Logone and Chari Division.

Officials said the 4,000kg consignment was intercepted while being transported illegally across the border.

Authorities say the seizure forms part of ongoing efforts to combat cross-border smuggling and strengthen border security.

Methanol is a highly toxic chemical that can pose serious health risks if improperly handled or used. Customs officials said the operation underscores their commitment to preventing the trafficking of hazardous and controlled substances into the country.
