The Minister of Territorial Administration Atanga Nji Paul, accompanied by Cameroon’s development partners on Tuesday April 16 launched the 2024 Cameroon Humanitarian Response Plan. The humanitarian response plan, HRP, is a joint venture of the Cameroon government and the humanitarian community coordinated by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA.
According to Mr Coulibaly Siaka, UN Resident Coordinator and coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs, the 2024 Humanitarian Response Plan, HRP, for Cameroon will require 371.4 million dollars to cater for 3.4 million people. This will provide protection services to 2.3 million vulnerable women, girls, men, and boys in the most-affected areas. The Cameroon Humanitarian Response Plan targets urgent needs caused by the Lake Chad basin conflict, the crisis in the North West and South West Regions, the influx of Central African Refugees to Cameroon, the outbreak of diseases and climate change shocks. Mr Coulibaly said an estimated 2.5 million people still face acute food insecurity in 2024, despite some positive trends observed in some regions. He thanked Minister Atanga Nji Paul and the Cameroon government for frank and positive collaboration in humanitarian issues. He said Cameroon is an example for the management of humanitarian issues.
Minister Atanga Nji Paul on his part intimated that the launching of the humanitarian response plan is taking place at a very difficult international context, where other issues are diverting attention and taking funding away from humanitarian services. He said President Paul Biya has always placed a pivotal concern on issues of humanitarian relief and has always welcomed the support of development partners.
It is worth recalling that in 2023, humanitarian partners reached 1.2 million of most vulnerable people with various forms of humanitarian assistance in Cameroon
