By Mesumbe Nelly
Cameroon Anglophone youths are increasingly leaving the country for their safety as they have become prime targets by security forces in the wake of the ongoing Anglophone Crisis in the Northwest and Southwest of Cameroon. Government forces have intensified their hunt for leaders and supporters of the Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) in the two regions as well as those suspected of supporting the Anglophone separatist cause. This crackdown of mostly youths, especially those with vocal voices critical of government action reflects escalating tensions, with authorities targeting key figures associated with the SCNC or the fight for Ambazonia liberation, a prominent organization within the Anglophone movements advocating for self-determination.
NGWESE Jompeh Green, a teacher by profession and researcher in conflict resolution and vocal critic against government’s method of handling the Anglophone crisis is among several youths on the run for fear of security clamp down.
A warrant of arrest according to a document ECO OUTLOOK got, has been issued against Ngwese Green by the security. The warrant issued on 18/12/2023 has become the modus operandi of the security targeting suspected youths dealing with separatists fighters who are in hiding.
According to information gathered by Eco OUTLOOK Ngwese Jompeh Green has also been dismissed from the public service and cannot access any relevant Cameroon document like PASSPORT.
The suspected SCNC member was accused by the Cameroon military of conniving with Anglophone separatists fighters after his open criticism calling for dialogue between the government and separatists fighters.
Like many other Anglophone youth, it is highly believed he managed to escape out of the country for his safety . The warrant of arrest was therefore issued in his absence.
