Though everything was already ready to welcome some twenty heads of state from Central Africa and the Great Lakes region for the CEMAC-CEEAC meeting July 18, 2025 in Yaounde, CAMEROON unexpectedly cancelled the event.
The decision to postpone the event came on July 10th, from Cameroon’s President Paul Biya via a letter signed by Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh.
No official reason has been given for the postponement, but behind the scenes, some sources point to the Head of State’s personal schedule, combined with the sensitive context of the 2025 presidential election, as determining factors.
Yet, the signs were positive. The President of the CEMAC Commission, Baltasar Engonga Edjo’o, personally oversaw the final arrangements with experts in Douala recently, demonstrating the strategic importance of this summit for sub-regional integration and the ratification of common structures.
Experts say the postponement is a setback that risk slowing the political momentum surrounding the project to unify regional economic communities in Central Africa.
A rescheduling is expected, but no new date has yet been announced.
