Brilliant PHD Defence according to the Examination panel of six Professors
Defending PHD thesis is an exalting task, most students undergoing the process will say. After years of research, writing, and editing, the final challenge , the viva voce, also known as the thesis defence comes to finalized the academic viva.
Dr Akale Akule Ransom is one of those who successfully demonstrated his expertise, defending his research findings and brilliantly securing his doctoral qualification PHD in Banking and Finance at the University of Buea, September 27, 2025.
ECO-OUTLOOK caught up with him for an interview after the defence for an interview.
EXCERPTS;
1) Greetings and congratulations for defending your PHD in flying colours at the University of Buea. How do you feel after this milestone achievement?
I feel really great and elated, thanking God for permit that this project goes hitch free. As can see the PHD thesis defence took place on the 27th of Sept at the faculty of social and management board room,University of Buea. It was not an easy task but thank God I was able to stand to the challenge with an excellent score according the jury of my defence.
2) Can you summarize your defense topic and what it illustrated.
Thesis topic: the effect of financial integration and financial technology on financial performance of commercial banks in the CEMAC Zone.
This thesis was intended to solve the problems of low financial performance of commercial banks by the adoption of financial integration and financial technology.
Measuring financial performance through ROA and bank total deposits as proxy, the researcher recommends the adoption of a common digital financial framework in the CEMAC Zone and to encourage integration through harmonize regulatory frameworks just to list these few.
3) Who was your supervisor and those at your defense panel
I had to face a college of academic panel made up of Professors, Molem C.Sama, Visemih William Muffee, Messomo Elle Serge Nwahanye Emmanuel all of the University of Buea, then Associate Professors Jumbo Eleanor and Dobdinga Cletus of University of Bamenda.
4) Learning is a process and those willing to learn more always aspire to go higher. Any hope to go higher and how soon.
It’s my wish to continue working hard to improve on my capacities. After a terminal degree I’m looking forward to see how relevant I can be to myself through my job and of course the country at large. It’s my wish therefore to publish articles and improve knowledge in my field of specialty.
5) Any advise to Younger ones wishing to follow in your footsteps?
Yes, to my junior once nothing has ever been simple except its coming from the devil.* the bible says we shall labour before we reap. It’s the same in education. Attaining such heights in life entails dreams, hardwork, sacrifice and determination.
Life has never been a walk in the park, keep pushing your dreams further, you will stumble along the line but never forget to rise up when ever you fall.
