The National Communication Council, NCC, has expressed great concern over surging cases of registered FEMICIDE in the past few weeks in Cameroon.
In a Press Release of 31st August signed by the President of the council, Mr Joe Chebonkeng, NCC called on media professionals whose role it is to inform the public to remain ethical in the reporting.
The cautions media professionals to remain vigilant and ethical in their reporting against such acts to help break the silence and raise awareness.
“ The Council urges acute vigilance in the choice of words, images, headlines, testimonies and content broadcast in the media to preserve privacy, dignity and memory of victims as well as those of their families and loved ones,” the release cautioned.
It called for special attention to be given to women, children and other vulnerable groups.
In less than ten days, over eight cases involving women have been killed in violent or suspicious circumstances
The media has reported cases across the country, from Yaoundé and Douala to Belabo and the Adamawa Region. These cases have shocked the public and renewed calls for Cameroon to confront what increasingly appears to be a national femicide crisis.
