Unity, peace and community development was the message to the people of Ekambeng Village, Bangem Sub-Division, during the maiden edition of Dr. Ewane Cliford Ngabe’s Football Tournament for Unity and Progress.
The football jamboree that kept the young old and the entire community in jubilant mood ended in grand style on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Seven teams from across Ekambeng, New Bell, and the Muanenguba (Mbororo) Community participated in the competition sponsored to the tune of 1 million FCFA.
In the highly entertaining final played at the GPS Ekambeng Football Field, Dovas FC of Ekaah emerged champions after beating Fire FC of Nzizog 2-0 to lift the trophy.
The tournament brought together sons and daughters of Ekambeng at home and abroad, and even beyond, using football as a tool to foster brotherhood and collective development.
Speaking during the final, the sponsor, Dr. Ewane Cliford Ngabe, who is a senior State functionary, CPDM elite of Bangem, and Sub-Section President of Nhia III – Ekambeng, said his motivation was to create a platform for the people of Ekambeng to come together in a peaceful, unified, and friendly atmosphere.
He called on the youth to remain united, live in peace and harmony, and shun drug abuse and other social vices that could jeopardize their future. He urged them to give greater value to education, to positively harness their talents and also engage in activities that contribute to community progress.
Dr. Ngabe announced plans to continue supporting key development projects in Ekambeng and even beyond, together with other elites.
He lauded Ekambeng for remaining a stronghold of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement, CPDM, recalling that the village recorded 100% support for the party during the last presidential election, with more than 250 votes. He urged the population to maintain that loyalty and continue standing behind the Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya, and the CPDM, while pledging his full support to work with them in addressing development needs.
Speaking on behalf of the Organising Committee, Kang Ekane Terrence, who is also a youth representative, commended the seven participating clubs for their discipline, fair play and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
He thanked Dr. Ngabe for his generosity and commitment, noting that the successful organization of the competition was made possible by his support.
“The tournament has not only provided an avenue for youths to showcase their football talents, but has also strengthened unity, peace and cooperation among the people of Ekambeng,” he said.

The captain of the victorious Dovas FC, Epie Clifford, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance and thanked the sponsor and organizing committee. He attributed their triumph to teamwork, determination and commitment.
The football final was spiced with traditional dances, musical displays, and the award of prizes to deserving teams and players. The event ended in a festive atmosphere with renewed calls for unity and development in Ekambeng.
The presence of ELECAM, both on this final day and during the semi-finals, greatly boosted the voters registration, and the entire population took a unanimous and renewed commitment to the CPDM and its ideals, while promising another 100% during the upcoming legislative and municipal elections.

Before the opening ceremony, the donor, Dr. Ewane Cliford Ngabe, was designated with a title of Notability by the Chief and Notables of Ekambeng at the Chief’s Palace.
