Authorities Say
Three civilians were killed and four others wounded when armed men attacked a drinking spot in Bamenda on Sunday as they impose Ghost Town orders, local authorities said.
The attack occurred around 3 p.m. on September 14, 2026, in Back PMI, Beyelle/Nkwen quarter, in Bamenda III Subdivision, Mezam Division, according to a radio-press release issued by the Senior Divisional Officer (Prefet) of Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh.
The Divisional Office said the attack was carried out by armed terrorists.
The three people killed were identified as Bana Emile, 27, Verla Fabrice, 23, and Bomnuy Albertine, 20. Their bodies have been taken to the mortuary of the Bamenda Regional Hospital.
Four others were injured: Sanyuy Betmua, 31, Foven Paul, 38, Lukong Dilan, 28, and Adamu, 39. The statement said they received first aid at PMI Nkwen and have all been referred to the Bamenda Regional Hospital for further treatment.
In the communique, the Prefect of Mezam, on behalf of the President of the Republic and in his own name, extended sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
He strongly condemned what he described as atrocities committed against defenseless persons and said the national and international community should bear witness to what he called systematic and repeated attacks on the physical integrity of civilian populations by criminals acting in violation of human rights.
Mooh said clear instructions have been given to competent state services to track down and bring the perpetrators before the competent judicial authorities.
He also called on the population to actively collaborate with administrative authorities and defense and security forces to prevent any threats to social cohesion and peace in his area of command during this sensitive back-to-school period.
