MINADER Launches 2024 farming season in Bangem.

The Senior Divisional Officer for Kupemuanenguba and the Southwest regional delegate for Agriculture and Rural Development on March 23,2024 launched the farming season in Bangem with a call on promoting and valorizing local production to enable the division keep it’s pride as the bread basket in the region in particular and the nation as a whole. “The richness of soil and climate in Kupemuanenguba can permit Cameroon to produce several agricultural products including cocoa, coffee, rice, maize, and beans, on very large scale,” the agriculture delegate Jackson Tapi said. He stressed that the government is putting in place measures to reduce importation of agricultural products,thus the need for farmers to mobilize efforts to double local production capacity. “Cameroon is committed to making its second-generation agricultural policy, which seeks to modernize agriculture,” Tapi said. 

“In our quest to revolutionize agriculture, the government intends to open up agricultural production centers, especially in rural areas like Bangem and link them to urban centers,” he said, adding there are efforts to transform local production in a modern way. Addressing farmers from Bangem, Nguty, Tombel the delegate said government was aware of their preoccupation and was doing everything to help boost their productivity,their income and consequently livelihood. He blamed the cancellation of the Bangem lap of 2023 plantain festival insufficient mobilization of financial resources. Bangem it was announced will soon get a state of the art coffee transformation machine to help farmers completely transform coffee into finished product. The Senior Divisional Officer for Kupemuanenguba Ekema William for his part lauded the farmers for their hard work, encouraged them to continue in the same light. .The farmers received farm tools and improved seeds to boost production.

Cameroon’s farming season usually runs from March to October.

Agriculture is the mainstay of the country’s economy, contributing about 76 percent to its gross domestic product, according to the ministry of agriculture.
