CHILDREN OF BANGEM e.V an NGO led by an elite of Muakwe based in Germany-Bavaria, Prosper Nokwe has constructed and donated a 53million and above worth school infrastructure to the village community to help improve learning of students in the area.

The school infrastructure was officially handed to the community and government authorities at a ceremony in MUAKWE  Sunday March 2, 2025 by the initiator of the project and friends from Germany who gave support.

The ceremony was presided over by the SDO for KupeMuanenguba, Ekema Williams Mungambo in the presence of the Mayor for Bangem Ekungwe Christopher, traditional authorities , friends of the initiator from Germany and several other elite of Muakwe.

The SDO saluted the project as a giant strides that will go a long way to galvanize development in the area.

“ We are happy when sons and daughters of the division come up and realize development projects like this. We thank God for giving us an illustrious son like we wish he continue in this light. We like to encourage others to emulate good examples like this one because education is key to development.”  SDO Ekema Williams said.

For the Mayor of Bangem it was a lofty project that has transformed the community and made the population happy. He pointed out Bangem Municipality was our to ensure development of area and thus needed support from all and sundry, NGOs , business entity etc.

“One of the responsibility of the council is to ensure socio-economic and cultural development of the municipality. One of the reasons I created the Bangem Development Forum, a platform that connects sons and daughters of Bangem at home and abroad is to promote development initiatives like this one. We are calling on sons and daughters of Bangem with development initiatives to come on board. The councils needs the companion of all. Participatory development is what we encourage and I salute Prosper for this wonderful job,” Mayor Ekungwe said.

The project initiator Prosper Nokwe noted that the initiative started in 2001 with the construction of wooden structure thanks to support from friends in Germany. Twenty years later it was time to transform the school into a more permanent structure after the woods worn out.

“ We are glad that this dream has been realized thanks to support from friends of  CHILDREN OF BANGEM e.V my NGO. But we are not yet done because we envisage in the years ahead to equip the school with solar energy given challenges of power supply in the area. We also plan to light up the streets in Muakwe improve visibility especially at night for security reasons,” he said.

It should be recalled that the NGO has been involved in other development projects in the KupeMuanenguba area. It has been helping support families in Muakwe and the surrounding villages right up to Muangwekan.

“ We give textbooks and exercise books yearly since 2014 to pupils/students. To ensure sustainability, the textbooks provided are returned at the end of the school year for those who got promoted to the next class,” he said.

These books are then given to the next generation of students. The year where some textbooks are taken out of the curriculum means we have fewer books to give out.

“Generally we are focused on sustaining development and cooperation through charitable and productive socio-economic activities in the bid to transform the lives of disadvantaged, have-nots and the less privileged populations in both rural urban poor communities of Cameroon,” Nokwe said.
