BIR Frees Zigague Hostages After One Week in Captivity.

Kidnapped hostages free at last

Ten hostages who were kidnapped last week following an attack on a Touristique agency bus in Zigague, Far North Region, have been released. They are currently under medical observation at a BIR camp.

The announcement was made by the Governor of the Far North, Midjiyawa Bakary, who also confirmed with regret the death of one of the hostages.

lt should be recalled that some 16 people were kidnapped including 5 children in Zigagué and Sale in the Far North by suspected terrorist. Many human rights groups and civil society organizations sympathized with the families during the terrifying moment. Criminals have continued to operate with complete impunity in the country’s Far North region just like in the English speaking regions of Southwest and Northwest.

This makes the population question the effectiveness of the security measures put in place to combat these terrorists.

Even more alarming is the deafening silence from the government, which has still not made any official statement since this horrific abduction occurred.
