Cameroonian tech entrepreneur and activist Rebecca Enonchong has criticized what she describes as hypocrisy and moral superiority among some supporters of opposition leader Maurice Kamto (MK). In a social media post, Enonchong expressed surprise at the reaction of certain Kamto supporters to political endorsements made ahead of the October 2025 presidential election.
Enonchong noted that while some had previously praised Anicet Ekane and his party, MANIDEM, for their patriotism and commitment, those same voices have turned around to label them as “traitors” and “sellouts” after their coalition, the Union for Change, decided to endorse Issa Tchiroma Bakary.
She questioned the logic behind these accusations, asking whether critics considered themselves “more patriotic or politically aware” than Ekane, whom she described as a long-standing figure in Cameroon’s political landscape.
The activist further defended others who have publicly declared support for Tchiroma, including herself, Barrister Alice Nkom, and some members of the MRC (Cameroon Renaissance Movement).
According to Enonchong, disagreeing with political choices is acceptable, but attacking the integrity of those involved reflects a lack of sound arguments.
She concluded that such “misplaced moral superiority and virtue signaling” do not make anyone more patriotic, adding bluntly, “You are part of the problem”
