AFF-FAO organised Community of Practice discussions on ‘Climate change in African forestry and wildlife sectors’ rolls into week two

The African Forest Forum, AFF and the Food and Agriculture Organisation, AFF organized live online chat on Climate Change in the African Forestry and Wildlife Sectors begins its second week of discussions Monday 16 September, after successful and enriching first week knowledge exchange.

Moderated online by Dr. Jewel Andoh, Research Scientist, CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana the discussion that saw an encouraging number of community of practice participating, permitted for knowledge exchange in diverse climate change in forestry and wild life issues.

Participant exchanged on concept of climate change and its impact in the forestry and wildlife sectors, components in forestry and wildlife sectors that emit more greenhouse gases, mitigation and adaptation practices in the forestry and wildlife sectors in different countries, identify the various constraining factors facing government institutions to effectively implement climate change interventions in different countries, identify different financial sources accessible to forest and wildlife managers to address climate change,

Participant were expected to propose some key steps that African governments should take to create incentives for different stakeholders (private sector, NGOs, etc.) to implement climate actions in their respective fields, give their ideas on  key characteristics a funding proposal should have to be able to attract funding for climate actions in the forestry and wildlife sectors etc.

In conclusion Dr. Jewel Andoh, appreciated the end of the first week of the live chat, on Climate Change in the African Forestry and Wildlife Sectors, hoping the second week be even more engaging.

He notes that “during these sessions, we’ve explored crucial topics such as the impacts of Climate Change on Forest and Wildlife Resources, Mitigation and Adaptation Practices, Policies and Institutional Frameworks, and Financing. The diverse perspectives and contributions of all participants have greatly enriched our discussions. We are thrilled to continue our webinar series and face-to-face interactions next week, from Monday, September 16th to Friday, September 20th, 2024. We will delve deeper into the practical highlights of our first-week discussions. Join us on Monday, and together, let’s keep the momentum going,” he said.
