Seven Cameroon soldiers shot dead in Akwaya after a raid by Nigerian Fulani herds men according to a report by the DO of Akwaya.

The incident accordingly started on Thursday 02/01/2025, when a contingent of armed Fulani rebels from Nigeria reportedly penetrated into Cameroon territory and launched deadly attack against the station military forces at the borderline with Nigeria precisely in Agwa quarter of Bakinjaw village under  Messaga-Ekol court area in Akwaya Nord.

“During the gun fire exchange one fulani rebel dropped dead and the rest retreated back to base in Nigeria neighborhoods with intention to go beef up thier man power and come back for offensive reprisals,” the report said.

The same gang armed with automatic rifles stormed the same Agwa quarter January 3. 2025 and launched deadly arson on the Cameroon forces.

“ Unfortunately, 7 of our soldiers(5military  and 2 Gendarme elements) are reported dead. This pathetic situation is highly preoccupying to the elites and politicians from the zone in question because their ancestral land has been desecrated with blood of innocent Cameroonians  by foreign mercenaries as they put it,” the report said.

Akwaya sub division often comes under hostile and aggressive attacks by sophisticatedly armed Fulani herdsmen from Nigeria for years now. This disturbing phenomenon has been  challenging to the local administration which keeps harnessing efforts in collaboration with security and defense forces to seek a lasting solution to it.

Important to indicate that whenever these  attacks are effected,  the casualties are always immeasurable on the side of the indigenous population with a heavy dead toll and material destruction registered. The reason presume for the deadly attacks lies on the usual Fulani quest to occupy vast portion of land for cattle crazing possibly through conquest, the report explained.

What remains doubtful is the decision of Fulani nomads from Nigeria to attack Cameroon forces in a security context where separatist fighters are on the other hand staging hostilities against the population.

However, investigation is ongoing in view to ascertain the push factor (remote and immediate causes ) behind this attack on Cameroon forces, the report said.
