Construction of Bangem-Nguti Road Set to Begin in November 2024

The 53KM stretch of road linking Bangem and Nguti is now officially in the pipeline for the Ministry of Public Works. Officials have confirmed that construction will commence at the beginning of the dry season in November 2024, starting with earthworks.

A team of topographic experts has already evaluated the site and the project will be executed by the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR).

 Experts believe that this initiative will significantly enhance the economy of Bangem, Nguti and the Kupemuanenguba division in general as well the country as a whole.

KupeMuanenguba agriculture experts say is one of the key breadbasket in the country, topping in plantain production with over 35%.

The road network, coming on the heels of a planned plantain transformation industry in Bangem funded by the African Development Bank, AfDB will significantly transform the economy of the region.

Equipment Construction and Security Base in Ndipsi

As part of the preparations, the first consignment of construction equipment has been delivered by the BIR. The delivery, which began on August 26, includes a bulldozer, a grader (14 H), and a compactor. This initial equipment is intended to facilitate the construction of the BIR’s base at Ndibsi, located about 4KM from Bangem, the BIR technical team says.

 

In March 2024, topographic and geotechnical studies were conducted for the first 10KM segment from Bangem to Elah. These studies will continue towards Nguti after the rainy season.

To ensure the safety and effectiveness of the project, the BIR has established a security team. Collaboration with local residents is crucial, and several preparatory measures are underway

Electric Poles: Displacement is required by ENEO. Water Pipes: Relocation efforts will be necessary.Crop Harvesting: Locals have been advised to harvest crops, especially in the vicinity of the Ndibsi school area.

SENSITIZATION OF LOCAL POPULATION

Sensitization of the local population on the importance of the road project and the need for collaboration is ongoing.   A letter to the KupeMuaneguba community by the Minister, deputy Secretary General at the Presidency Elung Paul Che to that effect was circulated to people recently.

Also some 12 members of the KupeMuanemguba Chiefs conference were recently received by the Prime Minister, Chief Dion Ngute with one of the discussion agenda being the Bangem- Nguti road project.

The road construction project is anticipated to play a vital role in bolstering the local economy and improving infrastructure in the region, the chiefs said.
