Over 40 Truckloads with relief materials en route to Far North

TRUCKLOADS EN ROUTE TO FAR NORTH

 The Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji has announced an increase of President Paul Biya’s donation to Far North flood victims from 350 million to 1.9 billion fcfa. He made the declaration today September 17, 2024 while coordinating the take off of over 40 truckloads of relief humanitarian materials to the Far North.

The Minister was flanked by the administrative and security officials of the Mfoundi Division who all witness the departure of the  emergency humanitarian relief material for victims of recent devastating floods in the division. The trucks accordingly are transporting mattresses, blankets, sleeping mats, mosquitoes nets, toiletries, vegetable oil, sardine, rice and other food items. The different humanitarian items will be distributed to the affected population in the days ahead.

It should be recalled that severe rainfall in Cameroon’s Far North Region recorded this 2024 led to over 11 death and more that 4000 displaced. Preliminary reports across the media talk of loss of human and animal lives, huge material damage, displacement of persons and education perturbed. The report is carried by local press publications in the country and in addition UNICEF and the United Nations Population Fund.

In a  briefing to the press on measures taken by the government to address the recent floods on Friday September 13, the Minister announced that fifty trucks would transport basic necessities to the affected area meanwhile an inter-ministerial team would commune with the affected population in the days ahead to supervise aid distribution, counsel the people and assess the situation. The Minister expressed the condolences of the head of State with regards to eleven lives lost during the flood that also caused by severe material damages. He continued that President Paul Biya has asked for the climate situation in the entire national territory to be assessed for lasting climate security measures to be implemented. Minister Atanga Nji commended the Senior Divisional Officers and Governor of the area who have secured the affected persons, noting that preventive measures have been put in place.
